Accessibility at Young Voices

Young Voices is for everyone and we are committed to making all activities as accessible as possible.

Resources

Our music packs include written sheet music and lyric sheets. These learning tracks and videos are also accessible online for children to access at home as well as at school. We also produce lyric videos that help children learn the words of the songs along with the music.

Our lyric sheets are also available in Braille - just order yours through the YV office.

Teacher Workshops

All our teacher workshops are hosted in venues that are accessible and Young Voices will make adjustments for any teachers with specific needs who attend.

Concerts

For the Children

When children perform in the Young Voices Choir, schools can register any special requirements that members of their choir have.

Special Schools - we have a number of special schools that take part in Young Voices every year and we work with them to ensure that their needs are taken care of so that they can have a happy and enjoyable day at Young Voices.

Children in Wheelchairs - the arenas have custom spaces for those who attend in wheelchairs. When we ask you to check in you can let us know how many children in wheelchairs will be attending in your Teachers Centre.

Other special requirements - Young Voices is used to dealing with a wide range of access needs. Please just let us know what these are in your teacher centre. If you are a parent whose child has a particular need - please let your teacher know so that they can inform Young Voices

For the Audience

All of our venues are accessible to those with a wide range of needs and requirements.

Each of our arena venues is a member of the Attitude is Everything Charter, which is a charter designed to improve deaf and disabled people’s access to live music:

BSL Interpreted Performances

We offer a BSL Interpreted performance in every city that we visit. Please check the concert dates page for the interpreted show in your city and request that your school performs on that date if you have audience members who will benefit from this.

Personal Assistant Tickets

We offer a companion or personal assistant ticket free of charge for people with disabilities or conditions who are booking a ticket and require a companion with them to be able to attend our events.

If you book your tickets through the school they will be able to let us know what you need or if you book your ticket directly with the venue (usually from December) they will have a specific accessibility box office number (please check your venue page here for more details)

Please note: you may be required to provide the below forms of copied evidence. Although venues will review an application without the recommended evidence on a case-by-case basis.

  • Front page of DLA / PIP (no specific rate)
  • Front page of Attendance Allowance letter (no specific rate)
  • Evidence that registered severely sight impaired (blind)
  • Recognised Assistance Dog ID card

We want everyone to be able to take part in and enjoy our concerts and activities. If you have a specific requirement or question, please get in touch so we can make sure you have the best possible experience.

    Every year YV charges a registration fee (£105 + £5 P&P tracked mail ) for schools who wish to take part in the YV concert.

    With payment of the registration fee you will receive:

    • Teachers Guide – information, order forms and useful tips
    • Music Book - notes from our conductor David Lawrence, music and lyrics sheets
    • Online Teacher Resources – full access
    • Online YV Teacher Community – full access
    • Secure Online Music Resources for choir members
    • Inclusion in a YV concert – regardless of the size of your choir

    Over 150,000 children participate in our concerts each year! As with all exciting things – there is a limit to the number of concerts we hold each year and the number of children that each venue can hold. So that we don’t exceed this capacity we need the help of you, our teachers.

    Upon registration we will ask you for the approximate size of your choir. We understand that this might be far enough in the future that you don’t have a good estimate – new to the school, first time at YV, bringing a new class year, etc. However, if you could make your very best educated guess that will help us have an idea of capacity.

    Any schools that do not submit an approximate choir size will be allocated our average (30 children).

    Choir Check-in must be completed in the Teacher Centre in September

    At Choir Check-in we ask you to confirm:

    • That your school still intends to attend your allotted concert
    • How many children are in your choir
    • How many adults are accompanying your children
    • Any other special requests YV (for example, choir members who need a wheelchair space or need extra support. Medical confirmation may be requested)

    By confirming your attendance and numbers at this stage you make it possible for us to:

    • Confirm any spaces for schools on the waiting list
    • Place the choirs in the arena
    • Process school ticket orders in the best way possible for parents to see their children


    We use your choir numbers to seat the choirs in the arena so it’s important that you give us the most accurate number of children and adults that you can. If your numbers change after this date it is important that you let us know straight away.


    Young Voices works on a ratio of 1 adult per 10 children Plus 1. Eg. 10 children = 2 adults, 20 children = 3 adults etc. Should you wish to bring any extra adults above the YV 1:10 ratio, there will be an additional charge (£25). However, if you are able to submit evidence of a SEN statemented child that needs additional support (free carer), please use the options available on the Teacher Centre (from September).

    To confirm your choirs’ place in one of our concerts, the payment of the registration fee must be received and approved. All registrations are subject to availability.

    The Young Voices Teacher Workshops represent a Continued Professional Development opportunity for teachers who want to improve or maintain the quality of singing in their school as well as teach a number of the skills set by the music national curriculum.
