David Lawrence

Introducing David

David Lawrence is one of the UK’s most versatile conductors, working with symphony orchestras and choruses of all genres.

In 2010 he was shortlisted for a Gramophone Award and is exceptionally thrilled to have remained the Principal Conductor of Young Voices since 1999!

David’s work has taken him to Singapore, Colombia, Canada,
the United States, India, throughout Europe and he has visited Australia no less than 16 times.

As a popular guest conductor he has conducted works such as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Britten’s Cantata Misericordium and Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony, and as a guest chorusmaster of the Netherlands Radio Choir he has worked with many notable composers and conductors including Stockhausen, Kenneth Montgomery and John Adams.

David has conducted for BBC TV’s Songs of Praise for the past twenty years, and is a senior adjudicator for the BBC Choir of the Year Competition. He has directed the national youth choirs of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as most of the UK’s symphony choruses. David is on the conducting staff of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra where he works closely with Simon Halsey and Sir Simon Rattle.
